POA Reward Vesting: Locked vs Spendable Balances

Learn how POA rewards unlock over 100 epochs, why earned and spendable balances differ, and what the October 21 circulating-supply snapshot shows.

At a glance

  • POAScan describes earned rewards unlocking in equal portions over 100 epochs, beginning the following epoch.
  • At roughly six hours per epoch, 100 epochs is approximately 25 days.
  • The reviewed token page displayed 78.1 million circulating POA, or 6.3% of minted supply; those are dated, rounded figures.

Why is some of my earned POA still locked?

POAScan’s documentation says earned POA rewards vest in equal portions over 100 epochs, starting in the next epoch. An earned reward can therefore be recorded before all of it is spendable. At the documented approximate six-hour epoch length, a complete 100-epoch schedule takes about 25 days.

Earned, locked and spendable mean different things

Use these terms to ask different questions about an account. A cumulative reward total describes history. A current spendable balance describes availability now. Neither alone answers what the account has transferred, received or reserved for another action.

A plain-language guide to balance terms
TermQuestion it answers
Earned rewardsHow much reward has been credited over the stated period?
Locked rewardsHow much of those rewards has not yet reached its unlock point?
Spendable balanceHow much is currently available for an allowed account action?
HoldingsHow much the account holds under the source’s stated balance definition.

A worked example: one 10,000 POA reward

Assume a single 10,000 POA reward follows the documented equal-slice schedule. Assume no additional rewards, transfers, fees or other account changes. Each unlock would release 10,000 ÷ 100 = 100 POA. This example explains arithmetic; it is not a forecast of your account.

After 1 unlock, 100 POA from that reward would be unlocked; after 10, 1,000; after 50, 5,000; and after 100, all 10,000. A new reward earned later would have its own schedule, so an actively earning account can have older unlocked rewards and newer locked rewards at the same time.

What the October 21 supply snapshot showed

The reviewed POAScan token page displayed approximately 1.23 billion total POA, 78.1 million circulating, 1.16 billion locked and a circulating share of 6.3%. The page rounds its figures, so displayed totals need not reconcile exactly. These are observations from October 21, 2026, not a live supply feed.

An earlier same-day observation showed 5.4% circulating. This article uses the later reviewed 6.3% display and does not combine the two snapshots into one measurement. Readers should compare the date and definition behind any circulating-supply claim.

Does an unlock guarantee I can sell?

No. Unlocking describes availability under a balance rule. Selling also requires a working exchange path, a willing counterparty and acceptable terms. A historical trade price does not establish an offer for your amount. Keep account availability and market liquidity separate when reading a dashboard.

Do transferred or swapped coins follow the same schedule?

POAScan’s explainer distinguishes earned rewards from POA received through transfers or swaps, which it describes as immediately spendable. This is a documentation summary, not a test of a particular transfer. Check the current account record and official instructions before acting.

How should I check my own balance?

Start with the public account record and its observation time. Identify which number is a current balance and which is a historical reward total. Then locate the locked and available portions, if the source supplies them. An unavailable field should remain unknown rather than being treated as zero.

Avoid using one displayed total for several purposes. For example, a reward-history total is useful for studying past activity, but it is insufficient evidence of the amount available for a new transaction. If the interface omits the distinction, the right next step is to seek the missing definition.

What remains unverified

This explainer summarizes POAScan’s documented vesting model and its rendered token-page snapshot. SearchPoA did not independently replay vesting calculations or test an account transfer for this article. The worked example is hypothetical. Network parameters, timing, source coverage and available services can change. Dollar valuations are omitted because a thin trade reference does not establish realizable value.
